We’ve managed to squeeze into our suitcases the finest acts from across the globe and local legends too, a non-stop list of the world’s top skaters, performers and artists are all along for the ride. We are excited and honoured to be bringing them to you this Sunday, 5 February at The Victoria Park Foreshore.

Tickets can be purchased from the Big Day Out Event Box Office at Victoria Park Foreshore, McCallum Park, from midday to 4pm on the day before the event (Saturday 4th February) and from 9am on the SHOW DAY.

It’s been fifteen years since SOUNDGARDEN last graced our shores. Headlining the Boiler Room from North West London are NERO. As the driving force behind Oasis, Noel Gallagher did everything you can do in music, but never before has he played BIG DAY OUT Perth! That all changes in a few days when NOEL GALLAGHER’S HIGH FLYING BIRDS make their Perth debut bringing a host of new songs to the stage, as well as classic Oasis tunes.  There’s plenty of beautiful, loud and proud crowd sing-alongs here so grab you friends and get along to this one.

And make sure you get there early for Perth’s own “cool, calm and commanding” ABBE MAY as she opens the Big Day Out stage followed later in the day by Melbourne rock band, and 5 time Big Day Out veterans, THE LIVING END who have been slaying them with “a masterclass in how to put on a festival set” (Herald Sun).

The Sydney Morning Herald said “rockers KASABIAN offered rabble-raising proof of their place as one of the most exciting live acts” and we couldn’t agree more.  And over on the Boiler Room stage are the must-see mash-up mixes of GIRL TALK and the unrestrained energy of OFWGKTA – both of whom have been massive crowd favourites.

THE VACCINES who, according to The Courier Mail “played a sizzling set on the Essential Stage and showed they are ready for bigger stages in days to come”, are a must add to your BDO schedule while over on the Green Stage, FOSTER THE PEOPLE are pulling massive crowds, bouncing and singing along to one of the biggest hits of the year, Pumped Up Kicks.

Returning after a 10 year hiatus is the BDO Skate Ramp featuring the unstoppable legend TONY HAWK’S VERT JAM, KINGS OF VERT and LEGENDS OF VERT.  Be prepared to be amazed as the teams keep the crowd enthralled with some high flying, kick-arse skateboarding stunts right throughout the day.

Our 2012 BIG DAY OUT artists are also killing it on the ARIA Charts this week with four entries in the Top 30 of the Album chart (Foster the People at No. 2, Boy & Bear up 7 places to No. 9, Kimbra at No. 16 and Kasabian up 18 places to No. 27).

You asked for it: after much petitioning from local fans, BIG DAY OUT is proud to be welcoming THE LIVING END back to Adelaide! The high-octane Melbourne trio will take to the Skate Stage in order to perform a special soundtrack to Tony Hawk’s BDO Vert Jam – very fitting, given their track End of the World was featured on theTony Hawk Underground 2 skateboarding video game!

And following their fantastic supports slots with Soundgarden, THE BRONX are joining the Big Day Out lineup for the first time in Adelaide. This LA quintet churn out raw riffs and piercing hooks, the band channels their kinetic live energy through razor sharp wit and unbridled aggression. No sombreros or alter egos here just the straight up power of THE BRONX.

The current weather forecast for this Sunday in Melbourne is 33 degrees.

A combination of large crowds, a long day and hot weather will tire you out. All patrons are advised to be prepared for the day.

Patrons are advised to consider arriving at the show later in the day if they wish to avoid the hours that the sun is at its hottest – especially if they have an existing medical condition.

• Wear sun protective clothing: a long sleeved top, long pants, sunscreen, sunglasses and a wide brimmed hat.

• Apply plenty of sun block.

• Drink plenty of water.

Patrons with chronic conditions (ie epilepsy, diabetes, asthma) are reminded to carry any medication you may need and information regarding their condition and emergency contact number on their person at all times.

IMPORTANT TIPS FOR THE DAY:

Water
Avoid dehydration – don’t forget to drink plenty of water! You can bring into the show an unopened or empty bottle of water no larger that 600mls (no glass!)  and reasonable amounts of food without problems. Free water taps are located next to all toilet blocks. Misting tents are located throughout the site.

Sunscreen
Extra sunscreen is available for purchase on the day from the Sunscreen for the Cancer Council of Victoria stall in the Market stall area. Cancer Council volunteers will also be roaming with sunscreen at entry points and the event.

Shade
We have shading for over 27,500 people so make sure you you limit your time in the sun by spending time in the shade between bands.

Getting To & From Big Day Out Melbourne
The best way to get to Big Day Out is by public transport! Extra trains and trams have been scheduled to make sure you and your mates can travel to and from Flemington Racecourse easily and safely. Don’t forget you’ll need a valid Metcard or myki to travel to the event.

Trains will run to a Sunday timetable so make sure you plan your journey ahead of time and work out which train you’ll be catching home.

Storm delays Kanye West’s set at the Gold Coast Big Day Out!

The Big Day Out understands that news cycle deadlines often mean that the complete story isn’t able to be reported so we’d like to set the record straight.

Last night on the Gold Coast, the severe storm that hit at around 7.45pm caused massive technical problems and damage to equipment which meant that Kanye West’s set commenced 45 minutes after it was scheduled.

Despite the delay, the audience eagerly stood their ground to watch one of the world’s most exciting artists perform to the biggest crowd of the day.  Kanye West delivered an incredible performance, with the huge crowd holding their ground for the full 90 minute set.

Big Day Out promoter, Ken West said “Stop picking on Kanye, the technical problems that delayed his start time by 45 minutes were from rain damaging our equipment.

“The fact that he had the biggest crowd of the day and delivered an incredible performance with the huge crowd staying to the end of set even though it was 45 minutes later than scheduled is a testament to what a great artist he is. The next shows will be amazing. Miss them at your peril”.

Big Day Out proudly presents The BIG DAY OUT skate show is back! BIG DAY OUT is proud to announce the return of the Vert Ramp Skate Show to the national tour for 2012. Twenty years ago, skateboarders rolled in on a huge custom built vert ramp to the sounds of skate rock band “Village Idiots” (on what was to become known as the “Skate Stage”) marking the opening of the first ever BIG DAY OUT.  The legendary BIG DAY OUT skate show had begun and ten years of amazing skaters, amazing ramps and truly amazing skateboarding displays were to follow. It’s been ten years since BIG DAY OUT has been able to do the skate tour as part of its regular shows and to celebrate 20 years of BDO, the skate show is back for 2012 and it’s bigger than ever! Kicking off in New Zealand and continuing across Australia in January and February 2012, BIG DAY OUT is stoked to be welcoming some of the world’s very best vert skaters on THE BIG SKATE TOUR! The Legends of Vert have been practicing this week on the brand new Big Day Out Vert Ramp, check out the photos below. They are all saying this is one of the best ramps they have ever skated….this is gonna to go off! The Skate legend himself, TONY HAWK is back for his 3rd BDO tour after 14 years away, and this time he is bringing some of his skate mates along for the ride! THE BIG AIR SHOOTOUT 2012 In 2001 we held the Australian High Air Championships amongst all the skate show action on the BIG DAY OUT tour. Jason Ellis went on to win in Perth, with Adam Luxford coming in a very close 2nd. The jaw-dropping feats of these incredible skaters were a sight to behold! So, let’s do it again! This time around we’ll be holding some unique high air comps for the BDO skaters to go for; most 540’s, highest ollie, etc. A nice ‘go for it’ ending to the skate show day. MORE ON OUR STELLAR SKATING LINE-UP FOR THE BIG SKATE TOUR 2012: THE TONY HAWK BIG DAY OUT VERT JAM TONY HAWK Nobody rides a skateboard like Tony Hawk. The San Diego native turned pro at 14 and was a world champ two years later – a record-breaking 73 wins to his name. Skip forward to 2011, and there’s not much Tony Hawk hasn’t done: launching major skateboard and clothingcompanies (Birdhouse Projects, Hawk Clothing), taking over the gaming world (Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, Tony Hawk: RIDE), penning a New York Times bestseller, building giant roller coasters, creating epic extreme sports exhibitions, and overseeing the Tony Hawk Foundation, who’ve built 463 skate parks throughout the USA so far. After landing the first ever ‘900’ – two and a half mid-air spins, a trick he’d dreamt of a decade earlier – the most famous skateboarder on the planet retired from competitive skating at 31. JESSE FRITSCH Jesse Fritsch turned pro in 2000 for Zoo York skateboards after winning the Tampa Am two years in a row. Nearly a decade later he has traveled the world skateboarding many times over alongside the world’s best professionals, and has participated in nearly every major skateboard event. Since 2004 he has also branched out to co-host a radio show alongside skateboard legend Tony Hawk on Sirius Satellite radio, and has also scored the music for over 100 commercials and video parts within the industry. Fritsch says “music and skateboarding keep me sane. I need each to balance the other”. KEVIN STAAB Back in 1979, two scrawny kids wearing stinky, sweaty safety equipment shared a ride home from the skate park, and from that point on Kevin Staab and Tony Hawk were skate buddies. Kevin’s life, 30 years after carpooling with Tony, has remained amazingly consistent. He still skates with Tony on a regular basis, and continues to draw double-takes from people. But Kevin takes it all in stride. After all, three decades after starting to skate, he’s still having fun doing what he loves most with the people he loves most to do it with. NEAL HENDRIX Neal Hendrix has been a top pro vert skater for over 20 years. Originally from North Carolina, Neal moved to California early in his pro career. Over the years, he has collected 8 X Games medals, and in 2005 won both Tampa Pro and The Shanghai Showdown vert contests. Neal is also the brand manager for Woodward Camps, and is a commentator for Fuel TV. SANDRO DIAZ Six-time world champion by World Cup Skateboarding (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2011), Three-time European champion (2001, 2003 and 2005) and Gold Medalist at X Games Los Angeles (2004 and 2006). Sandro started skateboarding in 1986 and turned pro in 1995. He is considered the king of the 540 and one of the few people to be able to land the 900. THE KINGS OF VERT ELLIOT SLOAN (USA) Elliot Sloan is regarded as one of the best vert skaters in the world at present. He is ranked 8th in the World Cup Vert 2011 rankings. Earlier this year at the Malouf Cup contest in South Africa, Elliot pulled off the world’s first “Tail-grab 900″ on the mini-Mega ramp. Elliot is also a music enthusiast, born and raised in New York City and currently resides in San Diego, California ALEX PERELSON (USA) San Diego skater Alex Perelson is considered the future of vert skating. At thirteen years old, he won first place at the Dam Am Vert competition in Costa Mesa, California and threw down a 540 in his final run, consistently placing in the top 10 in vert and bowl contests, including 4th place in 2007 at X Games. The 20-year-old became the fourth person in history to land the 900 in vert (July 2009), and he’s added a new tailgrab to the spin in 2011. RENTON MILLAR (AUSTRALIA) Renton Millar, nicknamed Rentos and from Melbourne, is a professional skateboarder. Millar came to prominence in 2001 when his sponsor Globe shoes’ video, Opinion, was released which showcased Millar performing tricks including a 360 flip crooked grind, nollie flip 5-0 and kick flip nose grind shove it on a vert ramp. He has had a lot of contest success culminating in the World Cup Title in 1999. SAM BECKETT (UNITED KINGDOM) Sam is considered one of the UK’s top new school vert skaters, and he’s just 20 years old. He made the top 3 in XG Vert Ams in 2008 & 2009. In 2009, he became the first skater from Great Britain to land the 720 on vert. He’s got back-to-back 540s and is a technical skater who loves to do kickflips and backside Smith grinds. The nearest ramp is 2 hours from his house, so he only gets to skate vert two times a week when he’s not traveling. JUERGEN HORRWARTH (GERMANY) Juergen Horrwarth’s reputation as a skater precedes him, with his early domination at competitions, evolving into a well-rounded, versatile and comprehensive skate career that has seen him excel in every field of the sport. He is about as diverse as you can be as a skateboarder. While he’s known as a stylish vert skater, he is equally at home with any terrain under his wheels. Fluid and effortless bowl skating is part of his game as well as smith- grinding handrails. European Champion 2006 Vert + Bowl, Skateboarder of the Year Germany 2009. THE LEGENDS OF VERT NATHAN ‘JIMMY’ BECK 27-year-old skater Nathan Beck, or more commonly known as Jimmy, claims he ‘will skate until he can’t anymore’. He has skated all over the globe from Europe to America. Placing 3rd in the Bondi Bowl-a-rama in 2009, 2nd in Korea Games 2009 and more recently winning the best trick at the Combi Bowl with a McEgg in 2011. This will be Jimmy’s 3rd BIG DAY OUT and he is definitely one skater not to miss! ADAM LUXFORD Adam has participated in hundreds of professional level competitions within Australia and overseas and has won several of these, becoming the Australian Vertical Ramp Champion in 2004. In 1995 Lux had an idea about creating an Australian based skateboard company that would supply skateboards and skateboard related products that are competitive with imported products, and with that Control Skateboards was born. Adam has had over 20 years experience in the skateboarding industry, touring worldwide as a professional skateboarder from the age of 18. R.J BARBARO R.J started skateboarding when he was 4 and hasn’t stopped since. 21 years on, he has traveled the globe and placed recognizably in competitions gaining international recognition. In 2010 he finished 8th in the World Cup Circuit for Bowl Riding. His most memorable contest was finishing 5th in Wellington, NZ and getting the highest placed Australian at a competition at Bondi Beach, finishing 6th. His current sponsors include Creature, Vans, King of Nothing, Odyssey 20/20 and Street Machine. TREVOR WARD Trevor Ward always seems to amuse spectators not only with his brilliance on a board, but with his zany personality. He is a down to earth success stating in a recent interview that his general likes are ‘his wife, 4 kids …. and skating’. This will be Trev’s 5th BIG DAY OUT! MICK MULLHALL In 1978 Mick discovered skateboarding, and then his first skatepark at Five Dock in the summer of 79/80. Mick went on to do demo tours with the Coca Cola Skateout Team in the mid 80′s, was invited to skate with Tony Hawk, Lance Mountain, and Steve Steadham during their first Australian demo at Kierle Park in Manly, appeared on the MILO tin (Which he’ll never live down), travelled through Europe and to California in the early 90′s, then returned to Australia just weeks before skating in the very first BIG DAY OUT skate demos in 1992. He also toured with the BIG DAY OUT up until 1996, when Tony Hawk last appeared at the BIG DAY OUT. In recent years Mick has been competing in Bowl Masters events locally, and abroad. Regularly placing in the top 3 at Bondi Bowl-a-rama, it has been 20 years since Mick’s first appearance at the BIG DAY OUT.

Extra trains and trams have been scheduled to make sure you and your mates can travel to and from Flemington Racecourse easily and safely. Don’t forget you’ll need a valid Metcard or myki to travel to the event. TRAIN Trains will run to a Sunday timetable. So make sure you plan your journey ahead of time and work out which train you’ll be catching home. Special trains will leave from Flinders Street Station (platforms 8 and 9) from 9.30am. Trains will stop at Southern Cross and North Melbourne stations and then run express to Flemington Racecourse. Trains stop at the same stations to get you home. Last train to the city from Flemington departs at 11.35pm. TRAMS will run to a Sunday timetable with extra trams running to and from the racecourse. Please note that no U turns will be allowed along Epsom Road and both Duncan and Wisewould Streets will be closed to traffic during the event. TAXI/PARENT PICK-UP Please note that post event, pick up will not be possible on Epsom Road as this will be closed to traffic. The pick-up areas will be CORNER OF EPSOM AND LANGS ROAD (NEAR SHOWGROUNDS and on the city side of Racecourse Road NEAR THE ROUNDABOUT. PARKING There is limited car parking available in the vicinity of Big Day Out and it is advisable to use public transport where possible. All of the local streets will be designated as “Permit Zone” only on the day of the event and parking restrictions will be heavily enforced so don’t risk getting a fine. If you must drive, provisions have been made at the Showgrounds for public parking but spaces are limited and the cost will be $15 per car. Entry to the Showgrounds car park is via Langs Road. Entry to the Big Day Out is via the Showgrounds tunnel.WHEELCHAIR ACCESS All Epsom Rd and Railway Gates are accessible. BIG DAY OUT BUS: Go to the Big Day Out Special Bus Stop just east of Currie Street stop V1 between 10:00am and 1:30pm and you won’t have to wait more than 15 mins for a bus straight to the showgrounds. Buses returning to the city will depart from Greenhill Road stop 1C (straight through from the BDO entrance) every few minutes from 9:00pm until midnight. TAXI: An extended taxi rank will operate on the southern side of Rose Terrace. ADELAIDE MAPS, TIMETABLES AND CITY INFO AVAILABLE HERE PERTH TRANSPORT Public transport is the easiest way to get to and from the Big Day Out. The event is joint ticketed, meaning your ticket to the BDO includes travel on all Transperth services, for three hours before, during and after the event until end of service. Simply show your ticket to the driver or inspector on your way to the event and your wristband on the way home. Transport will have a shuttle bus service operating direct to McCallum Park from the Wellington Street Bus Station in Perth. Catch the train to Perth Station or Perth Underground, which is right next door to the bus station. Trains are scheduled to arrive every 15 minutes throughout the day however you can visit transperth.wa.gov.au or call 13 62 13 for more information. After the event shuttle buses will run from the venue back to Perth where you can easily transfer to a train service. Trains will continue to operate on a 15-minutre frequency throughout the night until end of service. The last trains out of Perth on all lines will depart Perth and Perth Underground at 12.15am. A General Guide To A Big Day Out!

With the Big Day Out tour starting this Friday in Auckland, it’s time to start getting yourself prepared for what promises to be an outrageously good time. We’ve helpfully made a little list of a few things you should probably start thinking about in the lead up to attending the shows. DOWNLOAD THE BIG DAY OUT APP! If you’re planning on bringing your phone with you, make sure you download the Big Day Out app before the festival. Not only does it contain maps, timetables, and important event info, but you can also create your own personalised Big Day Out schedule, update your Facebook and Twitter accounts and take photos. Make sure you join our Facebook and Twitter to receive updates on the day and to find out the latest as it happens. DON’T FORGET TO BRING YOUR TICKET WITH YOU! You’d be surprised how many people manage to forget that rather important item. DON’T FORGET TO BRING YOUR PHOTO ID WITH YOU! If you are over 18 and wish to gain access to the onsite Bars, BRING PHOTO ID. Even if you are 55 you will still need photo ID. CASH! Bring enough cash with you to last the day. PLAN YOUR TRANSPORT! The best way to get to the Big Day Out is by public transport. Make sure you’ve taken a look at the timetables for your local public transport system and you’ve worked out a plan to get to the site – and, perhaps more importantly, how to get home when you’re a little bit worse for wear. PACK THE ESSENTIALS! Bring any medication you need to take, and if you have any chronic conditions or illnesses (i.e: epilepsy, diabetes or asthma) be sure to carry information regarding your condition and emergency contact numbers on your person at all times. First Aid are onsite to help anyone who needs it and please look out for your mates. BE SUNSMART! Sunscreen and a hat are your friends. Stick together through out the day and you’ll keep your gorgeous complexion and avoid having to deal with sunstroke, sunburn, etc. YOU CAN’T BRING… umbrellas, alcohol or video cameras into the festival. Amongst other things. Check the back of your ticket to see the full list of restricted items and make sure you don’t try to bring any contraband stuff in with you. We have no provision to check them in so you will need to get rid of them, or take them back home, before entering the festival. KEEP YER FLUIDS UP! It’ll be a long (and probably hot) day, so remember to drink plenty of water and stay hydrated. Patrons can bring in a small, (600ml) sealed or empty water bottle. CHOOSE A MEETING SPOT! It’s not called the BIG Day Out for nothing. It’s a huge festival and there’s going to be thousands of people wandering around. If you’re picking up your ticket from a friend outside the show, remember to be VERY SPECIFIC about where you’re supposed to meet and that everyone is totally clear on where they need to go on show day. It’s always a good idea to ensure you’ve arranged a specific meeting spot with your mates inside the festival too so if you get separated fr om them in the crowd during a band, you can hook up with them between performances.
